Sitting on the broadest expanse of Sri Lanka&rsquos Bentota Beach, a favoured golden sweep of sand that presents good swimming opportunities in the winter, the Avani Bentota Rresort is the perfect amalgamation of the new and the old, the fancy and the minimalistic. Formerly the Hotel Serendib, the resort was taken over by Minor Hotels in 2011. However, its character and features have mostly stayed the same, although it has been modernised.
Avani Bentota Resort, a well-established southern beach resort 90 minutes south of Colombo, is serviced by seaplanes, train stations, independent eateries, and water sports providers. The former estates of the renowned Bawa brothers, Brief garden and Lunuganga, are about a 20-minute drive from here, making it a fantastic location for anyone interested in art, architecture, and exotic plants.
A Splendid Piece Of Architecture
Though Avani Bentota Resort is a traditional beach resort, its main point of difference is that it was conceived by famed architect Geoffrey Bawa and inspired by 18th-century Dutch design. The resort's defining features are the long sloping tiled roofs with lookout first-floor balconies. Modern furnishings and colours have been given priority in the spacious rooms.
There are two swimming pools, the bigger of which is nestled next to a sizable children's pool, and the lengthy lawn covered in palm trees is a primary attraction. A spa and a workout centre are also available.
A Haven For Adventure Enthusiasts
The front office staff can arrange all the usual trips in and around Bentota, so reach out to them without any hesitation, and they will be more than happy to assist you. The resort also has a range of water sports activities, including kayaking, snorkelling, and windsurfing, making it an excellent destination for adventure seekers.
Morning Views Of The Ocean
All 75 of the starting rate rooms, which face the more significant, more extended pool, are very spacious for the price and feature private sit-outs for taking in the views. The bathrooms in Bawa homes typically have glass panels that run along the walls, giving the bedroom a picture of the ocean. Deluxe rooms are set back from the expansive front lawn and feature rather deep, well-shaded terraces, while the upper floor superior rooms offer the most excellent ocean views. Though a minute detail, the rain showers in the first category rooms are good and forceful.
Get A Taste Of The World
The primary dining establishment offering daily buffets is called Breeze. These often feature a small selection of international foods, such as a salad bar and a curry corner, along with a few live cooking stations for grilled fish and seafood, spaghetti, and breakfast items like waffles and omelettes. The indoor area includes air conditioning and views of the pool, while the outdoor space has fans and a light roof. Their Loft Bar, a first-floor lounge that stretches towards the water and beach, is close by and ideal for gin and tonics. A more relaxed bar with a view of the lawn, Chatterbox serves snacks and drinks during the day.
