The pandemic sure brought out the Masterchef in us, didn&rsquot it Well, not so much for me. And for those like me who prefer watching people cook on the small screen instead of venturing out into the kitchen, Delicut, an Indian food-tech startup has the perfect solution - Sous Vide gourmet frozen meals.
Most of the frozen meals that we order need a proper and working knowledge of cooking to be able to achieve a palatable meal. With Delicut, your concerns are halved, for their goodies need only be thawed, taken out of packets, followed by grilling or searing as required. And voila Your dinner is ready. A brainchild of Tarun Arora, whose experience in the F&B industry allowed him to transcend to a delivery model with relative ease, Delicut was launched in December 2020.
They promise fresh meals. So we tried it out for ourselves. From their elaborate menu that offers proteins of all kinds including seafood, chicken, lamb and more, we opted for the popular Herb Thyme Chicken Patty, Buffalo Chicken Wings and Miso Fish. They also deliver vegetarian options if you so prefer. The delivery only took a few hours, as promised. We only had to thaw the packets and put the contents on a well oiled pan.
What we liked
The grilled chicken patty was moist, almost restaurant grade, which can be put in a burger or just devoured with a distinct remoulade sauce that has lovely hints of mayo, tabasco and parsley. We chose the latter and ended up loving the hassle-free process as well as the delicious end product Delicut&rsquos signature sous vide technique allows the juiciness of the patty to linger for longer, lending a tenderness to the meat.
The buffalo wings were scraped off next. Tangy, and soft, made perfect by the super addictive Carolina-style buffalo sauce. The eight pieces, all of which are prepared without any oil, can be air fried as well, although I chose to deep fry them for an extra crunch. The Miso fish was last on our plate. The fish was pre-cooked and needed only a little bit of sear on either side to prepare the best fillets.
Delicut delivers vacuum-sealed dishes that are pre-cooked and instantly frozen at sub-zero temperatures in a blast freezer, allowing them to stay frozen for over 6 months without losing their texture, moisture and nutrients. There are also no preservatives and artificial flavours in any of their products. The only drawback The portions feel small and you&rsquoll need to order more than one product to make a wholesome dinner for two.
