Wine-making in India dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization (3300&ndash1300BCE) but modern wine-making in India rose to popularity in the 1980s and 1990s, according to industry experts. A shift in lifestyle and taste and increasing urbanisation have opened the way for wine tourism in India during the last decade. 

Vineyards in India are not only well known for their reds and whites but also for their magnificent estates nestled among green surroundings and rolling hills. So why not go on a 'wine retreat' when you are in search of solace for the mind and body Most wineries offer wine tours and tasting opportunities.

Here is a list of vineyards in India to check out.

York Winery, Nashik

York Winery, in Nashik, is situated on the gradual slope of a green hill with a little lake on its side. They produce wines such as Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc. They are one of the few Chardonnay producers in India. At the Cellar Door restaurant, you can try Indian food that pairs well with York wines.

Soma Vineyards, Bengaluru

Bordered by Makali Hill and Gundamagere Lake, Soma Vineyards near Bengaluru is not only a favourite with wine connoisseurs but its picturesque setting has also made it a popular wedding destination. The vineyard provides a four-hour tour during which you may sample some of the estate's own wines. 

Grover Zampa Vineyards, Bengaluru and Nashik

Grover Zampa Vineyards has two locations in India - one near Bengaluru in the picturesque Nandi Hills of Raghunathapura and another in Nashik, India's wine centre. You may learn about the wine-making process and enjoy some wine on their guided tour, which is offered three times a day. 

Chandon, Nashik

Mo&eumlt Hennessy started its Indian journey by establishing Chandon in Nashik. The vineyard is situated on 21 acres of land near Nashik. The winery is much sought after as a destination as much as its exquisite Brut and Rose wines. Winery tours are available. There is also a tasting room. 

Nandi Valley Winery, Bengaluru

The Nandi Valley Winery is a favourite weekend hangout, often for its grape stomping and music. Three-hour wine excursions cover everything, from wine history to bottling. Lunch and tastings are also included, and you may select which wines to taste. The winery produces a wide range of wines but is most known for its flagship Kinvah brand, named after a Mauryan Era beverage.
