Going Backpacking For The First Time Keep These Things In Mind

OT Staff
Trailing through the unknown, pushing yourself to take on new challenges, and tackling last-minute changes or unpredictability&ndasheverything that makes backpacking sound exciting is also what makes it tricky. Seasoned backpackers know the drill&ndashhow to plan and go about it. But if you are new to it and are gearing up for the first of many, some things must be kept in mind to avoid finding yourself in a difficult situation
&nbspGet Your Game Plan Ready
Going without a plan sounds thrilling, but not when backpacking. It is always a good idea to have a detailed plan ready&ndashthis includes deciding on what trail you will follow, the number of days you will complete the journey, and the sites you will cover each day. However, having a plan does not mean you will necessarily stick to it&ndashon a backpacking trip, you are bound to come across situations where you will have to work your way around.
Pack Well
Although you cannot carry a lot when you go backpacking, you must be more careful about what to pack. Essentials like extra batteries, a torch, dry and ready-to-eat food, extra sleeping bags, toiletries, and a first-aid kid should go before you pack anything else. Because backpacking trips are hectic and involve a lot of physical activity, be mindful about packing too much.
Know Your Gear
It is essential to test everything from sleeping bags and tents to backpacks. Sometimes, things don&rsquot work like we expect them to. Therefore, before setting out on your trip, it is recommended that you understand how to work the various gears you will be carrying. If you&rsquore a first-timer, it may be possible that you don&rsquot know how to set up a tent&ndashalthough you may be accompanying people who may&ndashit&rsquos always a good idea to brush up your skills beforehand.
Set Your Budget
A backpacking trip wouldn&rsquot make you shell out a lot of money, but good gear and supplies are pretty expensive. Not just that, if you are thinking of adding stops and overnight stays, that also adds to the expenses. Therefore, research well and set a budget for yourself that is realistic but also does not force you to cut corners.
Get The Right Shoes
The most important thing that you should get right away is a good and sturdy pair of hiking shoes. Those are literally your best friends on a backpacking trip. Not having the right shoes can cause painful injuries and blisters, making the rest of your journey difficult. Before rounding out on one, test the comfort, grip, and fit well.
