World Tequila Day, which falls on July 24, is an occasion to pay homage to Mexico's renowned spirit. This annual festivity beckons tequila connoisseurs and curious imbibers to savour the agave-based elixir, whether in the timeless form of a classic cocktail like a margarita or embraced in its pure state. The day is a tribute to the cultural legacy and meticulous artisanship woven into this famous and popular spirit. Here are some cocktail recipes that you can rustle up at home for World Tequila Day.

The Kohima

From BLR Brewing Company, Bengaluru

The Kohima

Ingredients:

  • 60 ml Camino Silver Tequila

  • 30 ml Chilly Orange Pineapple Brine

  • 22 ml Fresh Lime Juice

  • 15 ml Agave Nectar

  • Edible Rice Paper (for garnish)

Method:

  • Combine all ingredients (except rice paper) in a shaker filled with ice.

  • Stir well for 30 seconds.

  • Strain the mixture into a chilled coupe glass.

  • Gently drape a piece of edible rice paper over the rim of the glass for garnish.

Patrón Reposado Perfect Picante

Picante Patron cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 45 ml Patron Reposado

  • 20 ml Lime Juice

  • 15 ml Agave Syrup

  • 10 Leaves of Coriander

  • 1 Red Pepper

  • Salt and red chilli rim

  • Red pepper top

Method:

  • Add all ingredients into the shaker.

  • Muddle the chilli and coriander.

  • Add ice, shake, and strain the mixture over ice cubes.

  • Half-salt the rim of the glass.

  • Garnish with the stem and end of a red pepper.

Mexican Mingle 

From BLR Brewing Company, Bengaluru

Mexican Mingle

Ingredients:

  • 60 ml Tequila

  • 120 ml Mix (see instructions below)

  • Sparkling Water (to top)

  • Ice

  • Cherry Slices (for garnish)

  • Coconut Dust (for garnish)

Mix Ingredients:

  • 60 ml Coconut Liqueur

  • 30 ml Summer Berry Essence (or syrup)

  • 15 ml Dry Vermouth

  • A Squeeze of Fresh Lime Juice (or splash of citrus liqueur)

Instructions:

  • Combine mix ingredients in a separate container.

  • Fill a highball glass with ice.

  • Pour in the tequila.

  • Top with the prepared mix.

  • Top off with sparkling water.

  • Garnish with cherry slices and a sprinkle of coconut dust.

Tips:

  • Adjust the amount of summer berry essence or citrus to your taste preference.

  • If summer berry essence is unavailable, muddle a few fresh berries in the glass before adding other ingredients.

  • For a non-alcoholic version, replace the tequila with sparkling water or a splash of lime juice.

Ancient Margarita

Ancient Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 60 ml Green Chilli Infused Tequila

  • 6 Jalapeños

  • 10 ml Agave Nectar

  • 20 ml Lime Juice

  • 5 ml Passionfruit Puree

  • 1 Kaffir Lime Leaf

Method:

  • Prepare the kaffir salt rim by mixing 70 per cent salt and 30 per cent kaffir lime powder in a small dish.

  • Moisten the rim of a round-fashioned glass with lime juice.

  • Dip the moistened rim into the kaffir salt mixture to coat evenly.

Prepare the drink:

  • In a shaker, add 6 jalapeños and 1 kaffir lime leaf.

  • Muddle the ingredients thoroughly to release their flavors.

  • Add 60 ml of green chili-infused tequila, 10 ml of agave nectar, 20 ml of lime juice, and 5 ml of passionfruit puree to the shaker.

  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake well for about 15-20 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled.

Serve:

  • Strain the mixture into the prepared round-fashioned glass.

  • Garnish with a kaffir lime leaf or a slice of jalapeño for an extra touch.
