Sly Granny's New Cocktail Menu Blends The Classics And New Curios

Waquar Habib

Nestled in Khan Market, the site that once catered to the needs of Partition refugees and later turned into a premier shopping and dining destination in the national capital, lies Sly Granny with its eccentric offering of cocktails and casual sophistication of décor. The hip new bar has come up with a new seasonal cocktail menu that’s bound to tickle your taste buds and your fancy. Inside, leading up to the first floor, where a rendition of a Francis Bacon self portrait instantly caught my eye, I finally found the cocktail line-up, which was nothing short of a theatrical extravaganza, bringing international flavours and a dash of artistry to every glass.

The Curious Line-up

A serving of the delicious Wildcat of Bombay

Imagine stepping into a time machine that whisks you away to the sun-drenched hills of Italy. That's precisely what you get with the "Castel Del Monte." Attracted by the mediaeval, alpine grandeur that the name evoked, it’s the first potion on the menu which I tried. The delightful concoction of gin, roasted pineapple, Campari, and sweet vermouth captured the essence of Italian sunshine, all in one sip. If you're in the mood for something with a bit more bite, the "Wildcat of Bombay" is your ticket to a spicy soiree. With tequila, yellow pimento, lemon, cilantro, and a hint of jalapeno, this fiery potion is sure to ignite your evening. As I tasted the concoction, I was reminded of the pleasant sting of Goa's urak complemented with chillies, a delightful dance of heat and flavour.

A handsome glass of Hotel du Lac

Sly Granny’s new cocktail menu is like a global passport for your palate, taking you from the bustling streets of Bombay to the tranquil landscapes of Tuscany. Other concoctions included the "Ruby Myers," where vodka meets vanilla and grapefruit juice in a crisp, refreshing dance, elevated by a floral rose cordial and a touch of rose dust for a fragrant finish. "Rochelle" offered a sophisticated blend of vodka and aromatic bitters, softened by the warm, spicy sweetness of ginger saccharum and the invigorating touch of coconut water, creating a balanced and complex sip. The "Hotel du Lac" transports you to a world of exotic flavours with its robust tequila, complemented by tangy gari and the deep sweetness of jaggery, topped with a light raspberry foam for a fruity, airy finish. Finally, the "Name Dropper" showcases walnut whiskey in a luxurious, nutty embrace, enhanced by salted pistachio and aromatic bitters, crafting a refined and deeply satisfying experience. Each drink is a mini-vacation, meticulously crafted to transport you with every sip.

The Classics

A serving of The Betty Ford Tribute

The classic cocktail lovers must not despair in the reign of Granny for Granny hasn't forgotten you. The "Posh G&T" is a sophisticated twist on the beloved Gin & Tonic, featuring cucumber, rosemary, mint, and a touch of citrus. Whisky aficionados will revel in "The Betty Ford Tribute," a refined blend of whisky, orange, kaffir lime, jaggery, and lemon. And for a dash of nostalgia, "Granny's Dirty Martini" offers the perfect balance of vodka or gin, elegantly dirty.

The tangy concoction of Jungle Love

Not one to leave anyone out, Sly Granny’s non-alcoholic offerings are equally delightful. The "Almodovar" is a vibrant mix of watermelon juice, peppermint, and a touch of saline, perfect for unwinding after a long day. Meanwhile, "Jungle Love!" spices things up with guava juice, basil, Granny's hot sauce, and a hint of jalapeno—an ideal cooler on a hot day.
