The restaurant scene in Kolkata is ever evolving with new additions coming up almost every month. From a modern take on a speakeasy to cosy cafes and sky lounges, a variety of new eateries and bars have come up in Kolkata. Here are five places to check out when you are in the city.

Art Cafe

This is a branch of the popular cafe in Kalimpong which has made quite a name for itself. The café on a hillside near Thana Dara Square in Kalimpong was founded by local residents Pravesh Chhetri and Yachna Rizal. It encourages local artists and musicians and even sponsors several events and gigs. The Kolkata avatar is a cosy and tastefully done up space. You can get a cup of coffee, a plate of excellent momos, and a side of carrot cake while reading a book. The minimalist decor exudes an earthy vibe.

Tall Tales

This 3,500sq ft new place on Camac Street is modelled along the lines of a Prohibition era speakeasy. The space is in red, green and golden, which are said to be the colours that were used in a speakeasy. The name refers to the exaggerated way people speak when they have had a few drinks. Their tag line, “established in 1905”, is also modelled along the lines of a 'tall tale'. They have a curated food and cocktail menu featuring easy foods such as sandwiches, wraps, as well as main courses and cocktails. Have a cheese fondue while you enjoy the view of the Kolkata skyline.

Address: 8th Floor, Fort Knox Building, 6, Camac St, Elgin, Kolkata

Patisserie By Franziska

This is the second outlet of the popular patisserie, the first one is on Russell Street, off Park Street. Started by Franziska Marie from Germany, this cute little basement space is done up in pink. If you want to eat outside soaking in the sun, they have a few chairs and tables on the sidewalk outside, under the canopy of trees. They are known for their indulgent desserts like gateau, lime pastries, eclairs, and tarts which are all made from top quality ingredients.
