On day 3, Rency Thomas continued his journey on a mountain bike, passed through scenic trails, offered prayers at the Gangotri temple, and camped near Harsil.
Sharing updates from the expedition, Thomas writes:
Our day 3 plan involved prepping the bike to leave from Gangotri. I woke up early, fixed my bike's bell and chain, and readied the backup vehicle. Our goal was to camp along the road tonight. I rode solo while the backup vehicle stayed within a 5 km range behind me. Communication was via walkie-talkie.
On the way, we visited the Gangotri temple for blessings and stopped by a dhaba for lunch. My cycling journey commenced from Gangotri at 3 pm, coincidentally meeting with the National Book Trust (NBT) team on a mission to promote reading habits in children.
After an interaction with the NBT team, I set off again. The sun had already disappeared behind the mountains, preventing us from using drones in Gangotri National Park or town. Though I longed to capture the terrain, darkness crept in, so I continued riding and informed the support team of plans to return the next day for drone shots. By evening, around 5 pm, we found a roadside campsite just before Harsil, surrounded by beautiful pine trees. We cooked a meal, had an early dinner, and went live on Instagram for updates.
