Businesswoman Shahnaz Husain On Why London Is Her Second Home

Embark on a nostalgic journey with Husain through the historic streets of London, where the melody of street musicians intertwines with the aroma of diverse cuisines

Navigating through the historic streets of Covent Garden in London's West End, where the air was filled with the melodies of street musicians and the aroma of diverse cuisines wafted from cafes, I spotted a traditional English merry-go-round with brightly painted horses. I love horses, and maybe that is why that carousel caught my attention, and I kept looking at it for hours like a child.

This is London for me. It is a beautiful city for others, with mesmerising landscapes, art, and culture. But for me, it is a lovely box of memories that often takes me down memory lane. This city has always welcomed me like an old friend, and from the time I visited here for the first time to establish my brand, it is a testament to the fact that London is my second home.

Stepping onto the bustling streets of London feels like entering a portal to a world where history, culture, and modernity converge seamlessly. Every cobblestone and iconic landmark tells a story as I explore the city, creating a travelogue that unfolds with each step. The rhythmic hum of the Tube, the distant melodies of street musicians in Covent Garden, and the soft rustle of leaves in Hyde Park compose a symphony that orchestrates my daily life. These sounds, once novelties, have become the soothing background music to my London existence, creating a melody that resonates with the core of my being.

Not just this, the British Museum here is a treasure trove of human history and art, without which your trip to London can never be complete. I still remember the first time I walked through its halls, marvelling at the Rosetta Stone, ancient Egyptian Mummies, and the imposing Parthenon sculptures. This museum is no less than a time capsule, allowing you to travel through civilisations and witness the evolution of human creativity.

In London, I've found not just a city but a community where strangers become friends, and every street corner holds the promise of discovery. Whether it's sipping tea in a cosy cafe in Notting Hill or exploring the street art of East London, every experience adds another layer to my love affair with this city.

I have travelled worldwide for work and vacation, but I always feel relieved when I come to London. I explore every street as if I am visiting for the first time. The glamour, culture, food, and high-end shopping street markets amaze me every time. This place is not a destination; it's a warm feeling, a sense of belonging to me that has evolved over time.

Here, I discovered a city that invites exploration, celebrates diversity and embraces the magic of its storied past. The streets are full of magic. If you're a foodie like me, you must explore London's food culture by delving into its iconic markets. With its labyrinthine alleys, Borough Market showcases the best British and international produce. From artisanal cheeses to exotic spices, the market is a feast for the senses, offering a snapshot of London's culinary diversity. And if you are a shopaholic, you will love London's high-end stores on Oxford Street and Carnaby Street. Also, Sunday shopping at Petticoat Lane is an unforgettable experience. One can pick great stuff, from clothes to household goods and knick-knacks, at a bargain.

Whenever I wander its streets, savour its flavours, and absorb its culture, I can't help but feel grateful for the second home I've found in this city—a place where the past meets the present, and every moment is an opportunity to create lasting memories. Whenever I think of London, I always have a smile on my face. I take immense pride in saying that London is my happy place.
