The Journey to Leh

Travel from your home destination to Srinagar, a gateway to Leh via Kashmir. Spend a night in the charming houseboats or luxurious hotels of Srinagar. The next day, embark on an unforgettable journey to Sonamarg, known as the "Meadow of Gold." Traverse the picturesque Kashmir Valley with the Lidder River accompanying you. Lamayuru Monastery

Day 1: Kargil–Lamayuru-Leh

Begin your journey early from Kargil towards the picturesque Lamayuru Monastery. As the oldest religious centre in Ladakh, this site holds immense historical and cultural significance. It is believed to have been sacred long before Buddhism took root in the region. Day 2: Discovering Tourist Destinations

Embark on a journey to explore the historical treasures of Ladakh, starting with Shey Palace. Perched atop a rocky cliff, this former summer residence of Ladakhi royalty offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, with its crowning jewel being the majestic 12-meter Sakyamuni Buddha statue.

Afternoon

Continue your exploration by visiting Thiksey and Hemis Monasteries, both renowned for their architectural beauty and spiritual significance. Thiksey Monastery, resembling the Potala Palace in Tibet, is a must-see near Leh. The largest gompa in central Ladakh, it features the Maitreya Temple, which features the region's largest 15-meter-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha. Belonging to the Gelug sect, it hosts the annual Gustor Festival in October/November, a vibrant trade fair where villagers from across Ladakh gather to barter and socialize.

Hemis Monastery, dubbed the richest in Ladakh, is situated 45km from Leh. Known for its annual 2-day Hemis Festival, it features the unfurling of a giant thangka every 12 years. Established in 1672, it belongs to the Drukpa Lineage and boasts a museum with a diverse collection of Tibetan artefacts, including books, thangkas, statues, and precious stones.

Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley

Check with your tour guide about the pass needed to cross this landmark. Due to its high altitude, tourists can almost always witness Snow.

Nubra Valley

Arrive at Nubra Valley by late morning or afternoon and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of the region. Visit the famed dunes of Hunder and embark on a thrilling camel safari amidst the stunning desert landscape. Unlike the rest of India, where you will come across single-hump camels, the camels in Ladakh are double-humped and are popularly known as Bactrian Camels. They are one of the two surviving species of camels and are recognized as critically endangered.
