A Stroll Through Kolkata's Maidan Market

OT Staff

In 1954, a group of merchants and artisans opened stalls selling clothes, accessories and other items near the iconic Eden Gardens stadium. In the decades since, the Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy Market, more popularly known as the Maidan Market, has become the biggest hub for sports goods in the country. With some 449 stalls, about 80 per cent of them sell sports items and goods. Take a virtual walk through the market in this photo essay and make an in-person visit the next time you find yourself in Kolkata.
