International Friendship Day 2024: Things To Do In Delhi With Friends

Meghna Singh

Delhi has always been termed as a city of large-hearted individuals; the diverse experiences it offers play a role in it being known as the capital that holds something for everyone. Unlike the fast-paced setting of Mumbai, Delhi has an old-world charm and a sense of calm amidst all the chaos. The monuments, art galleries, recreational centres, the different Bhavans, and the mega malls render it a complete package and make it the ideal space to explore with your friends, have fun, and get to know your near and dear ones better. Here is a guide to doing the best of all Delhi offers with your friends.

Learn About Centuries-Old Artwork At The National Gallery of Modern Art

The National Gallery of Modern Art was established in 1954 and is a repository of more than 17000 significant works of modern art. NGMA, as it is popularly known, was established to acquire and preserve modern art from the 1850s onward and present it to a global audience. Some famous works on display here are by Rabindranath Tagore, Amrita Shergill, and Raja Ravi Varma. The museum has several art galleries, each dedicated to a particular theme. For example, one gallery on the ground floor is entirely dedicated to Satyagraha and Gandhiji. The upper floors have paintings by artists such as Thomas Daniell and Gajendranath Tagore. The museum also hosts exhibitions by various indigenous artists across the country. One such exhibition is that of Manish Pushkale, who painted the symbolic representations of the Boa language on canvas.

The entry fee is INR 20, and the museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm.

Experience Strawberry Picking

Fresh strawberries from the farm

Until a year ago, strawberry picking was only associated with European summers and closer home in the hills of Kashmir or the plains of Maharashtra. However, the capital now has its strawberry-picking destination in Chhatarpur. In a city where green spaces are scarce, the Lodhi Gardens and Sunder Nursery are packed to the brim, and people are tired of visiting mega malls for leisure purposes, the strawberry farm offering organic produce is a welcome change.

The farm is 11 km from Chhatarpur Metro Station and is owned by Prakash Saraf. The venture was born out of his and his family’s decision to stay in their family home and grow their organic produce during the lockdown. He was reminded of the joys of picking strawberries and apples from the farm and consuming organic produce. He decided to share it with the world, and now visitors can visit the farm in two slots, from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm. It is priced at INR 899 per person, and visitors are welcomed with a herbal drink and 200 grams of free strawberries.

Spend A Day Earning Pottery

Pottery has recently been gaining clout and momentum as people make an effort to delve deeper into the world of art and culture for leisure or just enjoy their craft and arts-based pursuits. The art of pottery making was earlier confined to traditional artists or individuals in the rural landscape of the country, but in recent years, it has managed to find a decent audience in the city.

Studio 694, situated in Gurgaon, conducts knowledgeable and fascinating pottery workshops and takes customised orders for loved ones. The studio's staff guides each person very patiently through the different techniques of clay craft, wheel, and slab work. Even with no prior experience, you can create a good souvenir.

Yulu Through The Lodhi Art District

Wall art in one of the walking areas of the district

The Yulu, a type of electric bike, is primarily native to Delhi and extremely popular among youngsters. Yuluing is a local term for riding a bike through the streets of Delhi. A popular route for this activity is to ride through the Lodhi Art District near Khan Market. You can start with a couple of your friends from Connaught Place, then move to Mandi House, go to Khan Market, and end your ride with a final stretch through the Lodhi Art District. The area has enormous tree-lined streets adorned on both sides, with walls painted with beautiful and eclectic art. The spectacle is a treat to the eyes and will improve the ride with your dear ones.
