Here's Why You Must Check Out The Delhi Tourism Walk Festival 2024

Himakshi Panwar

Delhi beckons tourists and culture enthusiasts to engage in guided explorations of its quaint lanes, monuments and diverse food culture throughout the month. The Delhi Tourism Walk Festival 2024, an ongoing celebration until March 31, showcases the city's exclusive monuments and historical legacy, with around 50 sites hosting guided tours for the general public. These guided walks aim to familiarise visitors with Delhi's rich heritage through its many wonders, including Purana Qila, Dargah Nizamuddin, Hauz Khas, and Red Fort.

A blend of ancient and modern, Delhi is a living testament of evolution across centuries. As a cosmopolitan city that has already marked its centenary year, the Capital celebrates its grandeur through thoughtfully preserved places of interest left behind by the erstwhile empires. Its inception can be traced back to the Mahabharata days when the place was called 'Indraprastha,' ruled by 'Pandu' and his sons 'Pandavas.'

The epic past today culminates into a melting pot of civilisations and cultures through its bustling markets like Chandni Chowk or technological advancements like comprehensive inter-city metro connectivity amidst a landscape of Lutyens' Delhi (Modern Delhi) and Purani Dilli. Here's what the Delhi Tourism Walk Festival 2024 has in store for visitors:

What To Expect

With approximately 50 historical locations, attendees can delve into sites such as Djinns at Feroz Shah Kotla, Partition diaries at Purana Qila, Amrit Udyan, and more, each providing a glimpse into Delhi's history.

Besides historical tours, the festival presents experiential activities, such as food walks in old Delhi: Zaike Purani Dilli Ke and Mughlai Dehli or a visit to the pottery village (Kumharon-ki-basti).

The Information

The festival spans from February 17 to March 31, costing INR 500 per person. Timings vary for each event, requiring attendees to check the website when booking tickets.

Booking details are available on the official website for those interested in partaking in this cultural odyssey.

It's important to note that the availability of historians/storytellers/guides is subject to specific dates, and walks may be conducted by any storyteller/guide with expertise in working on such exploratory journeys.
